A disappointing week turned decidedly worse for Tottenham Hotspur as we made the trip to Colchester United on Tuesday evening for our third round EFL Cup tie.

Goalless at 90 minutes, despite the control we had, we didn’t fare much better from 12 yards as the referee took the game to penalties to ensure a result on the night and following misses from Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura, we became a high profile scalp, falling to a 4-3 penalty defeat.

What should’ve been a night for some celebration given the youngsters we saw offered a shot, has simply raised more questions again given our overall form in 2019.

Statistics website Whoscored had mixed player ratings after that one, but Eric Dier took their star man award with a score of 8.02 for the night.

Completing the top five best performers in their eyes were Dele Alli (7.19), Davinson Sanchez (7.12), Kyle Walker-Peters (7.01) and Victor Wanyama (6.91) but plenty of fans will have their own thoughts on that top five.
